Favourite Hiking Attire

The Details

(Last updated January 2024)

I've come along way from wearing soccer rain pants for my rainy day adventures and garage leggings in those early days of hiking. When it comes to hiking, I'm all about comfort and well I'm cheap. (all about those sales) - I will list some of my favourites along with some photos. I hope this helps for any future purchases for you! These are just my personal favourites & will be more tailored to women.

COLD WEATHER:

  • Toques (preferably ones with a liner)

  • Gloves, I found some here at MW.

  • WooLove Apparel these are fab + they are 100% Merino Wool. I have the long sleeve & base layer leggings in the high waisted. Base layers are a must before putting anything else on in the colder months.

  • Neckwear from THE BUFF. My family got me one of these for Christmas and it really keeps my neck warm and you can also wear it has a bandana!

  • Costco leggings, these are a staple for the winter. They are so warm and fuzzy! Perfect for any cold weather adventure.

  • Thermal leggings, I found these ones at MW here. I recently purchased these and I'm really happy with them. They keep you super warm and they are comfortable.

  • Merino wool socks, ok these are a GAME CHANGER. They are expensive but highly recommend, I can't believe this is the first year I've had some.

  • Sweater, my go too are ones like these. This is called a mid-layer and goes on before a jacket. I also get ones at Mountain Warehouse for a pretty good price. Go for the sales at Atmosphere I always score there.

  • I don't usually wear any hiking trousers unless I am hiking in the summer months that's lighter but I've thought about something like this one day for colder months.

  • I am team Lululemon for sports bras, I don't got very much but the support feels good regardless of what ones I choose.

  • If I didn't spend $7 on a coffee every now and then from drip I will have more Patagonia attire but ya girl is a broke bitch, so the down jackets at Mountain Warehouse are good enough for me lol. I actually recently bought a Micro Fleece & Micro Snap from Patagonia and it's the best $100 I've spent.

  • For rain jackets I usually look at Atmosphere or again MW - I think I got a pink one from there in age 13. Go me (It's cheaper HA)

  • I have a Columbia rain jacket as well that lasted me years.

  • Rain pants - I have two pairs. I got one from Atmosphere from NorthFace & the other at Cabelas

  • BASE LAYERS from MW, they have Merino Wool or thermal ones that are great for winter.

WARMER WEATHER:

  • Nike baseball cap or really any hat just to cover the sun from my forehead. Something not too hot.

  • These are my favourite dad hiking pants that cut off from MW, they are so comfy! Explorer Women's cut-off pant. They come in handy with the zipper option to make them into shorts.

  • Literally any Lululemon short. So comfy, pretty & fashionable while on the trails.

  • Sports tops and short sleeve shirts for summer months, I like these ones at MW, usually you can find some great deals at Atmosphere for tanks or shirts as well.

  • These are my FAVOURITE shorts, I think I have three pairs. They are Northface and can be found at Atmosphere. They are so comfy.

  • ISO cool socks at MW or a performance or even the hiking ones are good for summer. Makes a world of a difference when you have socks that dry quicker. Costco also is a great place to find good socks.

  • Lululemon Align & Wonder Under pants - whatever they have, I got them lol. A staple in my hiking attire.

  • Sometimes I actually find some shirts at Urban Planet not all entirely bad if you have time to really look.

  • Lululemon Sports bras like I mentioned above, whenever I get hot - I usually just strip down to this.

  • Fleece once it cools down, like the ones I mentioned above, you can find some Helly Hensen ones at Atmosphere or MW ones. I love my Micro Fleece from Patagonia as well. Bonus I got a kids size to save me money LOL!

I will continue to add more as I go along, this was just what came to mind right away. It doesn't have to be super expensive, I have listed a lot of very reasonably priced items to get you outdoors quick without spending a ton of money and the attire I have bought has lasted me a really long time. There is nothing wrong with finding a good deal! Look on marketplace on Facebook as well, I am always looking for used items - you never know what you can find there that someone no longer needs! So long for now! Happy trails!
